Doyle Stulting, M.D., Ph.D. is Director of the Stulting Research Center, Woolfson Eye\nInstitute, Atlanta, GA, Professor of Ophthalmology Emeritus, Emory University, and\nAdjunct Professor of Ophthalmology, the Moran Eye Institute, Salt Lake City, UT.<\/p>\n

He has performed refractive surgery for more than 20 years, participating in the\nphysician-sponsored clinical investigation of LASIK before the first refractive laser was\napproved by the FDA in the United States. He also performs routine and complex\ncataract surgery, as well as corneal transplantation. Dr. Stulting specializes in the\nmanagement of keratoconus and corneal ectasia following LASIK, including corneal\ncross-linking performing multiple clinical trials for the procedure since 2008.<\/p>\n

For ten years, Dr. Stulting was a member of the FDA Ophthalmic Devices Panel and\ncompleted a term as Chair of the Panel in 1998. He is Past President of the American\nSociety for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, has served on the Board of Directors of the\nEyebank Association of America, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia\nEye Bank, and is Co-Medical Director of the Georgia Eye Bank. Dr. Stulting recently\ncompleted a 10-year term as Editor-In-Chief of the journal Cornea and is on the Editorial\nBoard of other journals.<\/p>\n

Dr. Stulting has been principal investigator for a number of NIH-supported clinical trials.\nHe was co-director of the Collaborative Corneal Transplantation Studies, has authored\nover 230 papers in peer-reviewed journals, published several textbook chapters, taught\ncourses for over 30 years at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and lectured\naround the world. He was awarded the American Academy of Ophthalmology\u2019s Lifetime\nAchievement Award and the FDA\u2019s Citation for Excellence, Commitment, and\nOutstanding Service in Protecting the Public. He received the prestigious Paton Award\nfrom the Eyebank Association of America, the Barraquer Award from the International\nSociety of Refractive Surgery, and the Binkhorst Award from the American Society for\nCataract and Refractive Surgery.<\/p>\n

Dr. Stulting graduated summa cum laude from Duke University in Durham, N.C, with a\nBS degree in chemistry. He received his MD degree and PhD in microbiology and\nimmunology from Duke. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at\nWashington University\u2019s Barnes Hospital and his ophthalmology residency at the\nUniversity of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Stulting completed a fellowship\nin cornea and external disease at Emory University, where he practiced, taught, and\nperformed research from 1982 through 2010.<\/p>\n

In 2010, he left Emory University to found the Stulting Research Center at Woolfson Eye\nInstitute, where he conducts a variety of clinical trials. He has a fulltime practice in\ncornea, refractive surgery, and external disease. He puts his regulatory experience to\nwork as a consultant for small and large companies to bring new technologies to the\nmarket in the United States.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
