Dr. Waleed Ghobashy MD, PHD

Dr. Waleed Ghobashy MD, PhD is Assistant Professor and Consultant of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University, Egypt. Since 2016 he is the Head of Glaucoma & Cataract Unit, Magrabi Eye & Ear Center, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr. Waleed started his career in the ophthalmology field in 1996 as a resident in Suez Canal University, Egypt. He received his master degree in ophthalmology in 2000 in field of cataract surgery. In 2005, he received his MD, PhD in Ophthalmology with thesis discussing ocular changes after myopic LASIK from Faculty of Medicine, Suez Cana University, Egypt. This was the first PhD thesis in Egypt in field of LASIK surgery; His supervisor was the Refractive Pioneer Prof. Dr. Karem Kolkailah. Dr. Ghobashy then moved to Knoxville, TN, USA to be the clinical fellow of Dr. Steven Sterling MD; the distinguished phaco refractive surgeon of East Tennessee.

In April 2007, Dr. Waleed Ghobashy returned home to pursue his career as a lecturer and consultant of ophthalmology in faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University.

From 2007 till present, Dr. Ghobashy did extensive research and clinical work in the fields of refractive surgeries, cataract, glaucoma, medical retina and Electrophysiological diagnosis of ocular diseases.

In 2014 Dr. Waleed Ghobashy gained the title of Assistant Professor of ophthalmology for his valuable researches in ophthalmology.

He has been rewarded the best published refractive paper in the journal of Egyptian Society of Ophthalmology in 2015.

Dr. Ghobashy is a member of many ophthalmology associations, as well as being a regular speaker in the annual meetings of the most prestigious ophthalmological societies including American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), Egyptian Society of Ophthalmology (ESO), Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, Magrabi Regional meetings (MIC) and many other regional and national meetings.

In addition to organizing and chairing many regional and international conferences, Dr. Waleed Ghobashy has published over 30 research papers in many renowned regional and international scientific journals.

Throughout his academic and clinical career, Dr. Waleed Ghobashy has provided ophthalmology teaching and training for medical students, residents, fellows and postgraduate students in Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Veterinary sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy in Suez Canal University. Beside Faculty of Dentistry of Sinai University. Moreover, he has supervised many Master’s and Doctoral theses.
